HOT DOGS, VEGGIES, CHIPS, FRUIT, AND MILK
It is imperative that we know how many family members will be attending the GLS picnic so that we can have the proper supply of food on hand for this wonderful event! A form was sent home with the students the week of May 5th requesting you to list the members that will be attending, and to return the form to your child's teacher by May 20th! If you do not register, we will not be able to host you for lunch.
Cost for lunch is $3.00 for adults and $1.75 for children. You can either pay the day of the picnic, or apply the cost to your student's meal account!
Join the GLS Family at the 13th avenue Dairy Queen on the last day of school! Our school will receive 10% of all purchases made between 2:00 and 5:00. How cool! You get to eat ice cream and support our school at the same time!
There will be NO daycare services available after school on May 23rd, the last day of school. School will be dismissing at 2:00 that day, and you will need to make arrangments for your student's after school needs. Thank you!
Attention bus parents!!! As part of our school's accreditation process, all faculty/staff members and bus drivers are required to be trained in CPR; therefore on Monday, May 12th there will NOT be a bus route after school. The students will need to be picked up after school. Daycare will be provided, free of charge, to those bus riders who can't be picked up right away. Daycare closes at 6:15 pm. I'm sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 282-4717 in the evenings. Nancy Freitag
An "at-large" position is available on the GLS School Board. This means that the position is open to anyone who has an interest in serving in this capacity. The term is a two-year term beginning July 1, 2008. It is also possible to renew a term two more times. If you would like to be considered for this position, please contact Mrs. Syverson by May 20, 2008. Some new safety procedures will be implemented at daycare. You will be asked to sign out your child by writing your name and the time you pick up your child each day. If you send someone to pick up your child from daycare and they are not currently on the Emergency Contact Form as an authorized person, you must send a note or call the office (no later than 2:00 p.m.) and give their first and last name. The daycare teachers have copies of all of the students' forms. You may want to take this opportunity to update your records by sending us a list of people authorized to pick your child up. We'll file your paperwork with our other contact information.
Let your relatives and friends know that we will ask for a picture ID. If the daycare teachers do not receive a written, dated note from you or a message from the office - OR if your friend/relative doesn't have a picture ID, the daycare teachers are instructed NOT to release your child to him/her. In order to assure the daycare teachers receive the message, it is IMPERATIVE you call the office before 2:00 p.m. Please understand it is an obvious safeguard in place for the protection of your child.
Because we have contracted students and drop in students in our daycare program, we sometimes split them up into two groups. Each teacher will have a daily list with the students in their group for the day highlighted. This way, we will always know where the students are and who is supervising them. When you come into the building at the west door, you should check the pop machine for a sign the teachers will put up indicating where the daycare children are located each day.
Another change is that we will require the children to ask for a "Bathroom Pass" to leave the group and go into the building or down the hall to the restroom. One boy and one girl from the group will be allowed to be gone at one time.
GLS is committed to keeping our students safe and secure. These safeguards are being implemented because of our concern for continued safety, and to insure no potentially dangerous situation occurs in the future.
Some students have been here past 3:30 and have been sent to daycare by the teacher on door duty. They tell us they aren't supposed to go to daycare. Students are NOT allowed to wait unsupervised inside the school or outside the school past 3:30. Please DO NOT tell your child they cannot go to daycare. We are responsible for the supervision of all children at the school who are not picked up by 3:30. They are REQUIRED to go to after school daycare for their own safety, and parents will be charged. If you do not want your child to go to daycare, you must be here to pick them up by 3:30. Thank you for your understanding.
